I have found City Directories useful when they mention a woman is a widow, as that helps to narrow the death date of the husband, but having the actual date is much more useful!Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12287578478232223188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8703211276812353950.post-16093804454142155372013-10-14T13:21:52.707-04:002013-10-14T13:21:52.707-04:00I was very happy to find this. However, for one of my 2nd-great-grandfathers, a city directory DID provide me with a middle initial, while neither census records or his marriage application did that. He had a fairly common name, so with the middle initial added, I was able to search the PA death indices for the 5-year span in which I knew he died, and, voila, I found him. It was that middle initial which did it for me---all courtesy of the city directory. I love those!Patti https://www.blogger.com/profile/12931836399684850729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8703211276812353950.post-12097766291203421022013-10-13T21:41:24.210-04:002013-10-13T21:41:24.210-04:00This is an amazing find, Teresa.
