Rochester, New York, Marriage Records

       
For this Thrifty Thursday I am recommending the follow website:
City of Rochester Municipal Archives Historic Marriage Records Research Site

 This free search-able resource contains over 170,000 marriage records dating from 1876 through 1943.

It is on this site that I found the marriage record of an elusive cousin - Albion Lefebvre. Even that was not easy, as you can see his last name was missed spelled as Lefebore;  a common translation error for Lefebvre.

Cornelius Bom's 1685 Missive

Above is a the title page of our ancestor Cornelius Bom's 1685 pamphlet published in Dutch giving an attractive account of life in their new home in Pennsylvania. This pamphlet, along with others published in German, French, and English, were widely distributed through the Low Countries and Germany to attract settlers to this new land.

Finding the Details in a Draft Registration Card

The Draft Registration card for Martin Kollein is one of the few places where we see a place of birth for one of the Kollain/Kollein family members.  Although not specific to a town, it is slight improvement over the usual "Austria-Hungary" seen in other records.

Although I was able to gleen out the names and date of this record, it was, overall, very difficult for me to read.  With the help of a fellow French-Canadian researcher the following is a general tanslation:

January 14 1637. Banns (?) made as usual......

we legitimate... F(ather) Gabriel (?) Lallemant, jesuit
acting as curé in Québec.....formally married (?).......that marriage Antoine Brassard mason and Françoise Méry

Tormented by Fire

It was by pure accident that I stumbled upon this 1880 article about our ancestor, John Busch.
I was attempting to confirm & verify the spelling of the street name written in the Cuyahoga County, Ohio, 1880 Federal census when a link to this article appeared in the Google search results for:  Lussenden Ave. & Cleveland.
John Bush?  I knew our John Busch resided in Cleveland but I had failed to note a street address.  A quick census search confirmed this was our man! 

The Welcheck family was residing at 36 Lussenden Ave. Cleveland Ohio, while the Bush/Busch Family was at 76 Lussenden Ave.  The son of Frank Welcheck (Vlcek), Stephen Welcheck, married the daughter of John Busch, Maggie Busch.  Putting them together by this proximity (along with other information) also helps confirm that the family recorded in the 1880 census as Frank, Katie and Stephen Watcher, were indeed the the Welcheck family.

In this town resided our ancestor, John Catlin (1643-1704), who was Newark's first schoolmaster. He opened his school in 1676 in his home as was the custom in those days.

Madness Monday - He must be somewhere....

I have a copy of a document dated 8 Dec 1881 for Frank Vlcek.
I suspect that he may be the father of Stephen Welcheck (Vlcek) but, as usual,  need more information.
A lot of very good information is given on this document, but, much to my frustration (hence this Madness Monday post), I cannot find any other references to this person. 
Perhaps someone with a fresh eye can help me out please.
