Sears Modern Homes were ready-to-assemble kit houses sold by mail order through the Sears catalog.  More than 70,000 of these homes were sold in North America between 1908 and 1940. Shipped via railcar these kits included all the materials needed to build a house.

St. Petersburg Times (FL) - August 21, 1998 

KOLLEIN, JOHN MARTIN, 76, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday (Aug. 19, 1998)
at James A. Haley VA Medical Center, Tampa. Born in Deans, N.J., he came
here 13 years ago from Willow Springs, Ill. He was a retired construction
contractor and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209, Spring Hill.
Survivors include a companion, Pauline Harry, Spring Hill.
Robert and Son Cremation Service, Spring Hill/Brooksville.

Family Recipe Friday: Snickerdoodles!!!

'The Joy of Cooking claims that snickerdoodles are probably German in origin, and that the name is a corruption of the German word Schneckennudeln , a kind of pastry. A different author suggests that the word "snicker" comes from the German word Schnecke, which describes a snail shape.  Yet another hypothesis suggests that the name has no particular meaning or purpose and is simply a whimsically named cookie that originated from a New England tradition of fanciful cookie names.' This card has some valuable information that I did not have earlier such as a specific birth date and the place of birth complete with town.  Unfortunately I am not able to locate this town as it is named.
Transcribed it reads:  Nenet H. Peter  ?
Perhaps someone with experience in researching Hungarian records could help me define this place.

One of the benefits of uploading your family tree on Ancestry's website is their emailed 'hints'.
I occasionally receive these emails from ancestry; Thankfully they do not fill your inbox with a barrage  of emails.  Sometimes the hints are irrelevant, or I have already located the item they are pointing to, but sometimes they lead to something I had not yet gathered.
Below is the email notice I received today:

I had not searched for the Becker family in the 1915 NY census yet.
I have to admit it is pretty nice to have it handed to me this way.
